Sailboat Learning

The girls and boys in 2nd Class recently became engineers and scientists as they explored the fascinating world of sailboats. We learned about the different parts of a sailboat and discovered how sails use the power of the wind to help boats move across the water.

The children then put their learning into action by designing and building their own sailboats using a variety of recyclable materials. They carefully considered which materials would float, how to make their boats balanced and how to create sails that would catch the wind.

The most exciting part of the project was testing our sailboats in water! There was great anticipation as each boat was launched to see if it would float and move. The classroom was filled with excitement and cheers as the children watched their creations sail across the water. Some boats travelled quickly, while others needed a few design improvements, helping us to learn the importance of testing and refining our ideas.

The children also engaged in a directed drawing and painting lesson where they designed lovely colourful sailboats.
