Cress Seed Growing

Image
Our 2nd Class scientists recently carried out an exciting investigation to discover what conditions cress seeds need in order to grow. Before beginning our experiment, we made predictions and discussed what plants need to survive. We set up three different groups of cress seeds: Group 1: Soil, water and light (optimal growing conditions) Group 2: Soil and light, but no water Group 3: Water and light, but no soil Over the following days, we carefully observed and recorded any changes. The children were fascinated to see that the cress seeds given water and light grew successfully, whether they were planted in soil or not. The seeds that had soil and light but no water showed very little growth, helping us to understand just how important water is for plants. As part of our learning, we also researched the many uses of cress. We discovered that it is commonly used as a garnish and can be added to salads and sandwiches to give them extra flavour and texture. The highlight of the in...

Easter Art Fun in 2nd Class! 🐰🎨

Image
2nd Class have been getting very creative with some Easter-themed art activities.  Foil Embossed Easter Eggs We explored the exciting technique of foil embossing to create beautiful Easter egg designs. Using cardboard, string, tinfoil and markers, the children followed each step with care and creativity. The finished eggs were bright, bold and full of texture, and everyone did a fantastic job! Easter Egg Baskets We also designed and made our very own Easter egg baskets. The children had great fun cutting, decorating and assembling their baskets. The chocolate eggs were a popular addition!

Leprechaun Traps STEM Projects

Image
Our classroom was buzzing with excitement as the children took on the challenge of planning, designing and making their very own leprechaun traps! Using a variety of materials, they worked creatively to design traps that would be irresistible to any passing leprechaun - lots of green coloured materials, shiny materials, glitter, rainbows and pots of gold were created to try and lure the leprechans. The children demonstrated fantastic problem-solving, teamwork and engineering skills as they built and tested their designs. While no leprechauns were caught (they are very tricky to catch after all!), the children had great fun and were incredibly proud of their imaginative creations. Well done everyone!

The Book Fair

Image
There was great excitement in 2nd Class this week as the Book Fair arrived in school! The children had the opportunity to browse the wide selection of books on display and explore all the exciting titles available. They carefully noted the books they would like to purchase and enjoyed discussing their favourites with their classmates. It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm for reading and books.

Engineers Week 2026 Musical Instruments

Image
There was great excitement in 2nd Class this week as we took part in Engineers' Week.  We kicked off the week by talking about what engineering is, what exactly it is that engineers do, the different types of engineering that exist and the skills required to be an engineer.  The boys and girls were tasked with planning, designing and making musical instruments that they could either blow into, bang or pluck strings.  Everyone planned out what they were going to make, sketching their idea, compiling a list of materials and got to work experimenting and trying to solve their task. A lot of testing and improvements were made along the way. The end result - some amazing instruments!  The children even went outside and formed their own marching band playing their instruments.  The children were very proud of their creations and enjoyed showing and telling their neighbours 1st Class all about their instruments, how they made them and they were happy to give them a go ...
