Engineers Week 2026 Musical Instruments
There was great excitement in 2nd Class this week as we took part in Engineers' Week.
We kicked off the week by talking about what engineering is, what exactly it is that engineers do, the different types of engineering that exist and the skills required to be an engineer.
The boys and girls were tasked with planning, designing and making musical instruments that they could either blow into, bang or pluck strings.
Everyone planned out what they were going to make, sketching their idea, compiling a list of materials and got to work experimenting and trying to solve their task. A lot of testing and improvements were made along the way. The end result - some amazing instruments!
The children even went outside and formed their own marching band playing their instruments.
The children were very proud of their creations and enjoyed showing and telling their neighbours 1st Class all about their instruments, how they made them and they were happy to give them a go at playing their instruments.
One of the most important light bulb moments the children had was realising that making mistakes is part of the process, that often their ideas need tweaking and that engineers keep trying until they solve the problem. Some budding engineers in the making for the future! Maith sibh gach duine!
