Designing and Making a Scarecrow and Scarecrow Drawings

We were so excited to enter the local Pumpkin Patch's Design a Scarecrow competition. We looked at photographs of scarecrows and brainstormed the kind of things we would need in order to make our own scarecrow. We made a list and then we began to bring in the items. Once we had gathered everything we needed we voted on the best trousers, shirt, wellies, hat etc to use to make our scarecrow. We worked together to dress the scarecrow and filled his body with straw. Ms Hill helped us with some of the tricky bits like tying the twine and attaching the head. We took turns designing our scarecrow's face. We are really happy with how he turned out. He is now on show for all to see at the Pumpkin Patch and we hope he is having a nice time there and helping out to keep the birds away from the lovely pumpkins! We have our fingers crossed for the Pizza Party prize but if we don't win we won't be too disappointed as we had so much fun making our scarecrow.  Thanks to everyone for b...

Teen Numbers

We have been developing our number sense and have been using concrete materials to explore the teen numbers.

Recount Writing

This term we have been working on the recount writing genre. We wrote many pieces of recount writing. Below is a look at Our Summer Holidays Recounts. We planned, wrote a first draft, final draft and published our writing. We think we did a good job as we wrote our recount pieces in the past tense, answered the questions When? Where? Who? and What and we used time connectives. Take a look at our published pieces below:

Autumn is Here!

Take a look at the wonderful work we have done on the autumn theme. We went on an autumn nature walk and recorded the various signs of autumn - what we could see, touch, feel and smell. We brought in some autumn leaves, helicopters and blackberries that we found in our school grounds for our nature table and added to our collection by bringing other signs of autumn in from home such as acorns, oak leaves, conkers and pine cones. We painted some autumn leaf hedgehogs. We had fun experimenting with mixing various colours to make autumn tones. We worked in groups on autumn projects.

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work!

In September, we have been really enjoying working in small groups for various activities in SPHE and English Oral Language. Here we are engaging in bonding tasks and games.

Beautiful Butterflies - Until you spread your wings you'll have no idea how far you can fly!

The children in First Class have been busy artists creating beautiful butterflies for our motivational bulletin board outside our classroom. Each time they pass by it, the children are reminded that each one of them is unique and special and when they put their minds to anything they can spread their wings and can achieve great things!
