St Brigid's Crosses

Image
The children in 2nd class enjoyed learning all about St Brigid’s Day and why it is an important celebration in Ireland. They explored the story of St Brigid and learned about her kindness. As part of the lesson, the children practised their creative skills by making their own St Brigid’s crosses using pipe cleaners. They showed great patience and concentration while following step-by-step instructions, and were very proud of their finished crosses.

The First Moon Landing Projects

Image
As part of their STE Education, the boys and girls in Rang a Dó explored our Solar System and developed a particular interest in the Moon, which led them to research the first Moon landing and the mission of Apollo 11 . Throughout the project, they practised important skills such as looking up information in books and online resources, identifying and recording key facts, summarising their findings in their own words, working collaboratively in small groups, asking thoughtful questions, and confidently presenting their work. Maith sibh gach duine!

Stay Safe lessons have been taking place the past few weeks. The children have been learning about being a good friend as part of this programme and enjoyed collaborating to create this display which reminds us of things good friends do. Take a look at their ideas below which they are making a conscious effort of putting into practice every day.

Basketball

As part of their PE lessons in basketball, the 2nd class children are learning how to dribble, pass and shoot while becoming more comfortable handling the ball. They are practising how to move safely around the designated area, keep control of the ball, and work together during small games. The children are also learning to listen carefully, take turns, encourage their teammates and show fairness when playing. Most importantly, they are building confidence, trying their best, learning that practice helps them improve and area having fun while doing all this too!
